A combined church service was held in Tari on Thursday to thank the security personnel and all those involved in making Hela's historic 2012 national elections a success.

Chief Executive Officer of the Hela Transitional Authority, William Bando, says the people of Hela have proven the critics wrong by holding a very peaceful election.



Mr. Bando, however, says there's still a lot more work to do and he stands ready to work with the new leaders to take Hela to new heights. Friday 13th July 2012

Counting of preliminary votes in the Nuku Open Electorate has ended. After the preliminary count, the sitting member and Pangu Party leader Andrew Kumbakor has a slim lead over National Alliance's Joe Sungi. Joe Sungi was the former Provincial Administrator of Sandaun Province before he resigned to contest the elections. Kumbakor leads on 7,000 votes followed closly by Sungi on 6,...844 votes. A distant third is PNG Party's Emmanuel Nassam on 3,881 votes. In fouth place is Mathew Suni of the Indigenous Peoples Party on 2,699 votes whilst Alfred Talis is fifth with 1,420 votes. Kumbakors own cousin Benedict Ambassi is sixth with 998 votes.



The counting of preliminary votes ended today and officals have advised that the counting will remain suspended until they have been paid their allowance. The elimination process is expected to begin tommorrow, however may be delay if the officals are not paid their allowances.
