DEPUTY PM SAM ABAL SAYS GOVT WILL ADDRESS PNG LNG LANDOWNER ISSUES
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Works Sam Abal has assured
landowner groups from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project area in the
Southern Highlands Province that the Government will address issues of
concern they have raised recently.
During a meeting with the disgruntled landowners at the Unagi Oval in Port
Moresby today, Mr Abal urged them to organise themselves properly so that
the Government can liaise with them in a more coordinated way on issues
such as the Business Development Grants, MoA funds and other related
issues.
Mr Abal, who is the chairman of the National Planning Committee (NPC), was
appointed by the National Executive Council yesterday to be the
government’s focal point to deal with outstanding issues relating to the
PNG LNG Gas Project.
“I was appointed by the Cabinet to take care of issues relating to the PNG
LNG projects and I assure you all of my commitment to work together with
the landowners to address these issues that have come up.
“But you must also organise yourselves so that the benefits from the
outstanding commitment made by the Government will go to the right
people,” he said.
The acting Chief Secretary to the Government Manasupe Zurenuoc and
delegates from the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive
Council accompanied Mr Abal to receive the petition and to hear the
landowners’ grievances.
