My Holiday Trip – Cairns, Australia
I recently travelled to Cairns, Australia for my R&R and to be with my family. I moved my family to Cairns, Australia about three months ago basically for better education for my kids as sadly you can’t get that in Papua New Guinea.
Anyway, it was pretty relaxing as I got to do things I would dream of doing when my kids were toddlers. Stuff like going to watch them play footy, dance or etc… Well, I certainly did that.
My son has joined the Cairns Brothers White Rugby League Club under 14s and the club has won all their games except one. I was a proud father as I was told by his mother over the phone that he had taken out the player-of-the-match at a weekend game before I travelled into Cairns. And that was only his third game after moving there!
He is slowly getting into the thick of things. Familiarizing with the way they play the game over there. He just needs to get more confident. But so far he has flayed fairly well.
I made a point to watch him the next weekend and was satisfied thoroughly. He was hard to put down. He stood in almost all the tackles when he had the ball.
All players in his team are definitely NRL candidates as they played excellent football every weekend.
I was also amazed at how organised these weekend sports were and the support from parents or families for their children to play these games. The games itself start on time and are disciplined and all. Of course there are scuffles and stuff but the disciplinary systems there is pretty strict so you wouldn’t dare try to do anything stupid.
The grounds themselves are kept well, there are volunteers who are trained to be referees and parents even help out to represent their children’s teams to be the linesman provided they know the rules.
I tell you, AMAZED I was.
I look back to PNG and I see that we have a long way to go. And it has to start with developing the younger crop of the code to get into a better position to put a team into the NRL. And that has to start now.
Anyway, I guess the NRL bid team is heading that way and place full support to Iffysoe.Segeyaro in having that vision form the start.
Well I will hope for the best as I’d like my son to play for PNG if he ever reaches that stage in his later years..
