Weekend Roundup

Sunday 11th April, 2010 Time: 11:30pm

Today was a boring day. We’re into our 11th day of the OKTEDI Mining Limited workforce strike and no work has been done.

The only interesting thing was the NRL footy that started on Friday night and ends tomorrow.

I guess that was the only thing that occupied most workers during the weekend.

Friday the 09th saw extra Police personnel arrive in Tabubil. I presume they flew in to make sure the strike doesn’t get nasty, although I think that’s highly unlikely.

The Union executives have appealed for normalcy and have commended the members of the Union for making sure this continues. It has been peaceful so far and the general feeling is to maintain this till a positive outcome is reached.

A delegation from the government has arrived with an aim to hopefully resolve issue once and for all. I hear the delegation is from the Deputy Prime Ministers department.. We’ll see what happens tomorrow but I hope it will be over sooner than soon.

I spent the rest of the day with a brother of mine that has been around our home ever since I was little. He works here in Tabubil as well so I went over to watch the footy in his room.

You see, I don’t have a TV. Didn’t have it ever since I moved into this room #26, which I am in search for a name to give. Anyway, that’s why I went over to watch so that I can take stock of my footy tips. I am happy so far as my team the West Tigers won their game last night.

Too bad if you’re a Cowboys fan reading this.

Anyway, I’ll fill you in on what tomorrow brings us here in the Star Mountains of Papua New Guinea.
