The OTML Allied Workers Union strike heads into day 15

This morning OTML Allied Workers Union members were addressed by the delegation from the office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The advised that 1600 plus crowd that the SISS deed was "rigid' and that by law there was no way anyone could change it. But they also gave options amonsgt others such as;

  • Have a representative from the OTML Allied Workers Union along with a nutural person in the SISS trust board.
  • Have the SISS thrown out and look at other possibilities to benefit all
They also said that their presence in OK TEDI was to act as a mediator between OTML management and the OTML Allied Workers Union and it's workers.

But while meeting with the Union to discuss further on possible solutions, the Union was served with a court order, ordering workers to return to work while progress on possible solutions to solve the issue were been discussed.

Upon recieving this, the Union executives notified the OTML Allied Workers Union members who further expressed their anger but encouraged each other to stand united to fight for "a fair distribution of the SISS monies".

The Union has also hired the services of a lawyer who has taken the case on. The lawyer us due to fly into Tabubil tomorrow to get updated and take the case forward.

The lawyer initially asked the union executives to advice the members to return to work while the case was worked on but this was refused. However, he went on to say that he would apply for a restraining order for the moment.

In the meantime, the news of the support of the PNG Trade Union Congress and it's member unions has been well received by the OTML Allied Workers Union members.
