Ok Tedi Mining and Allied Workers Union Members Take Strike Into Day 14

Another day gone. I am glad most of my NRL tips came through. I actually won some money but haven't collected that yet.

Well yesterday was interesting here in Tabubil. The OTML strike action continued into day 13 with meetings held between the Union, the Government and the OTML management behind closed doors.

During talks between OTML & the Government and later on with the Union, nothing was resolved.

OTML management stood their ground saying that the strike was illegal and that all should return to work while solutions where sought to resolve the issue.

At the sit-in location the Deputy Governor for Western Province & Member for North Fly, Boka Kondra paid a surprise visit. I thought it extra-ordinary as he gave his support to the striking workforce, saying that he and the Governor are in full support of this action by the employees.

But, come to think of it, he has always been vocal with regard to the mine. During his speech, he apealed to the Ok Tedi Mining and Allied Workers Union Members and his people of North Fly to stand firm, support this action but also do it peacefully.

By 4:30pm today, the striking work force were adviced that the meetings were in a dead-lock between the government, the Ok Tedi Mining and Allied Workers Union executives & management. These takes us into day 14 of the the strike by the Ok Tedi Mining and Allied Workers Union.
