Excitement Over NRL Season 2010

Yes, it's that time of the year when all are excited and looking forward to the start of the NRL season this weekend.
Funny..., even though the game is played in Australia, there is a craze in Papua New Guinea that is unbelieveable.

Most some men who have a TV at home, you'd be surpirsed to see them home early. For some, this is the time for an excuse to gather with friends for a beer and watch the game. But then again, that happens everytime anyway.

This year would be very interesting and unpredictable as teams bulk up and also get smarter and faster.

I am pretty sure that there wouldn't be much activity on the streets of Tabubil as most will be in their rooms watching. And for those who don't have one, then, it's to a mates room to watch. Definately.

Smithsonian Team Visits PNG

By Carolyn Ive January 26, 2011, Port Moresby -- A team from the Smithsonian Natural History Museum visited Papua New Guinea on a fact-finding mission January 13-22. According to the director of the museum, Christian Samper, the purpose of the trip was to highlight the work of the Smithsonian, while offering assistance to PNG’s National Museum. Possible areas of cooperation include documenting and sustaining endangered languages and knowledge. “When a language disappears, knowledge crucial to understanding, humanity and the natural world is lost forever,” said Joshua Bell, curator for Globalization. Bell began his anthropological research in the Purari Delta in 2000. “Languages are disappearing fast, and with it goes the knowledge,” said Bell. “This issue has become a major area of research,” he said.
